Our Story
Cookaburra is the brainchild of our founder, Alexander, whose culinary journey took him from the shores of Western Australia to the bustling streets of London. With over a decade of experience in the hospitality industry, starting as a chef at 16, Alexander honed his skills in fine dining Mediterranean cuisine, with a particular emphasis on showcasing fresh seafood, at a renowned restaurant on the foreshore of South Perth.
After mastering the craft of seafood preparation, Alexander embraced a zero-waste
sustainability concept in Perth’s CBD, where he further refined his culinary prowess. Upon relocating to London in 2016, his culinary adventures continued, traversing the vibrant culinary landscape from a quaint cafe in Notting Hill to a cozy Australian eatery and ultimately landing at a prestigious green Michelin-starred establishment.

Alexander observed stark differences in the hospitality industry between Australia and the UK, particularly in the qualifications and dedication of workers.
Driven by a desire to bridge this gap, Cookaburra was born.
Named after the native Australian bird known for its cheeky and fun demeanor, our brand embodies Alexander’s personality and the work environment we aspire to create. The name also plays on the original idea of having chefs work for the London Borough they lived in.
